Class explanation
In the classes we focus on ‘breath-synchronized movement’. The classes are dynamic and we practice postures and movements that are smoothly flowing and following the rhythm of each inhalation and exhalation. A lot of attention will be given to the technique of the yoga postures, the strengthening of the core, the spine, the abdominal muscles and the legs and the opening of the shoulders and the hips.
Yoga has both physical and mental benefits. Physically, yoga strengthens, detoxes and re-energizes your body. Mentally, the breath-synchronized movement relaxes your mind and helps to release any blockage of energy flow throughout the body.
The yoga classes are suitable for everyone who wants to work on:
– flexibility and strength
– a healthy body posture
– prevention of back pain and neck and shoulder issues
– breath and body awareness
– a peaceful mind
– relaxation
Yoga is about practicing and experiencing, about challenging yourself and stepping out of your comfort zone. Yoga is a lot of pleasure and fun too! Treat yourself to quality time and join my classes!
See you soon on the mat!
Class preparation
What do you need and what to bring?
– All you really need to begin practicing yoga is your body, your mind and a bit of curiosity.
– Yoga Flower provides yogamats but as your practice develops you might want to buy your own also for hygienic reasons.
– Wear comfortable (sports)clothes: sweat pants, leggings or shorts, a tank top or a t-shirt that is not too baggy.
– No special footgear is required becuase you will be barefoot. Bare feet are better able to find stable, balanced contact with the floor, which is essential for standing poses. Shoes are clunky and inflexible and socks are slippery. Working with bare feet also provides a rare opportunity to stretch and strengthen all the muscles in your feet, which can help support your arches and prevent foot pain.
– It is nice to bring a towel and a small bottle of water to class with you.
– Bring socks, a jumper and/or blanket that will keep you warm during final relaxation (Savasana).
Here are some guidelines to be able to relax and to enter and leave a yogaclass with good intentions:
– Practice yoga preferably on an empty stomach as we twist from side to side, turn upside down and bend forward and backward. If you have not fully digested your last meal, it will make itself known to you in ways that are not comfortable. If you are a person with a fast-acting digestive system and are afraid you might get hungry or feel weak during yoga class, experiment with a light snack such as some fruits, a few nuts or a cracker about 30 minutes to an hour before class.
– Drink plenty of water/herbal or green tea after class. This will have a detoxing effect for your body after the yoga practice.
– Switch off your mobile phone.
– Be in time for class: arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the class starts.
– Let the teacher know before class if you have any injuries or health issues that may influence your yoga practice (like high or low blood pressure, a hernia, joint pains or knee issues). Also let the teacher know in case you have your period or when you are pregnant. In this way the teacher can give you directions to help you in the practice and to make sure your practice is safe.
– Listen to your body during class: don’t force yourself and don’t injure yourself. Yoga is not a competition. Every body is different and every day the body feels different. Don’t force yourself in a pose when you notice that other people in class are able to do a pose ‘better’ than you do. No person is better than another. Let go of the ego!
– For the ladies during their period: avoid practicing inversions like shoulderstand, headstand and handstand while you are having your menstruation.
Liability and student advice:
– Participation in the Yoga Flower activities is at own risk. It is important to always listen to your own body and take responsibility to act upon.
– Never exceed your own (physical) limitations, it is your decision to do or not do any posture given in class. Immediately stop your activity and inform the teacher if you feel pain, dizziness or sickness during the practice.
– Yoga gives mental and physical benefits but never replaces any regular medical treatment. Always seek advise of a doctor in case of medical complains.
– Always inform the teacher before class about any potential health complains or any other physical conditions, which might be of relevance for the class you participate in.
– Yoga Flower is not responsible for any damage and or loss of property or physical damage that may have occurred before, during or after class.
